The
Conundrum? How to create a Kitchen that functions & entertains
like a modern kitchen but still has that old home feel? This
pre-WWII Congress Park Tudor was plenty large for our client.
The only problem was that the outdated Kitchen was isolated
from the large Dining & Living rooms. Entertaining was always
a challenge because of the “gravitational” pull toward the Kitchen
and the difficulty of serving guests from that cramped and walled
off space.
By opening the wall between the Kitchen & Dining room and
relocating the sink to the bar top side, we were able the turn
this once closed off space into a fully functioning wet bar
and serving area while simultaneously creating an efficient
and effective kitchen. Simulating the arched openings used elsewhere
in the home (and retaining the existing coved ceiling), extending
the premium grade oak floors and paint color as well as turning
the refrigerator 90 degrees, helped soften and blend this fully
functioning kitchen into the more traditional spaces in the
home. The cabinet style & finish as well as built in reading
niche under the existing bay window provide a sense of warmth
and old world charm consistent with the existing style of the
home. |
