This house in the Highlands area of Denver had a small, dark kitchen that was typical of many of the kitchens we see in the older homes of Denver. The homeowner desired more space with a larger kitchen and a lot of light that would enable her to comfortably entertain guests without everyone huddled in the dark kitchen.
Objectives
- Expand the kitchen for better function and create the ability to comfortably entertain
- Let in more natural light
Highlights
- Backyard addition allowed expansion of the kitchen, as well as a laundry room and an additional bedroom and bathroom in the new basement space that was created underneath the addition
- Opened wall between kitchen and dining to allow better flow, light and entertainment space
- New windows and use of skylights allowed the space to bath in natural light
- Concrete countertops and cool green subway tile
