THE DESIGN/BUILD CONCEPT

The Old Way to Remodel

Traditionally, a remodel project involves the cooperation of two distinct professions, Architecture and Construction. Within this traditional framework, you would first find a Designer who is able draw the plans and write the specifications for your remodel. To literally get your project off the ground, you would then find a Contractor who can transform the drawings into a structure, a process that involves a series of complex overlapping decisions.

You, the homeowner, are typically the facilitator of communication between the Designer and Contractor. In order for your remodel to be built to your vision and within both your budget and schedule, several things must fall perfectly into place. The drawings need to first be buildable and communication must go flawlessly. In the real world, and especially in older homes with lots of quirks, this can very easily become a daunting, frustrating task.

The New Way
The Design/Build concept is different. It combines the worlds of Architecture and Construction into one team. This means that you get the same team from start to finish on your remodel project. This seamless process solves the typical problems that often arise from a traditional remodeling approach by literally closing the knowledge and communication gap between the Designer and the Contractor. Additionally, the role that you play as a Homeowner on our team is as the decision-maker rather than as the mediator.

At Classic Homeworks, one of our greatest talents is design. We offer complete architectural design services. We will spend as much time as you need designing your remodeling project to your vision and within your budget. This includes complete drawings, specifications and consultation.

As a Design/Build remodeling company, we have the training and experience to see your project from all perspectives, offering you the best of both worlds. Not only does this unified approach ultimately save you time and money, but it also saves significant Homeowner stress. Only a Design/Build team who has worked with you from day one truly understands your vision and can guarantee that you will get the remodel you've been dreaming of.

The Design Challenge:
How to create a Kitchen that functions & entertains like a
modern Kitchen but still has that old home feel?

This pre-WWII Tudor style home was plenty large for our Client. The only problem was that the outdated Kitchen was isolated from the large Dining & Living rooms. Entertaining was always a challenge because of the “gravitational pull" toward the Kitchen and the difficulty of serving guests from that cramped and walled off space.

By opening the wall between the kitchen & dining room and relocating the sink to the bar top side, we were able the turn this once closed off space into a fully functioning wet bar and serving area while simultaneously creating an efficient, beautiful kitchen.

Simulating the arched openings elsewhere in the home, retaining the existing coved ceiling, extending both the premium grade oak floors and paint color, and turning the refrigerator 90 degrees all helped to soften and blend this fully functioning kitchen into the more traditional spaces of the Congress Park home. The cabinet style & finish and built-in reading niche under the existing bay window provide a constant sense of warmth and old world charm consistent with the existing style of the home. We are happy to say that this homeowner absolutely loves his kitchen!
