How
Does the Design/Build Concept Work?
Design
First,
we meet you at your home to talk about your ideas and budget
range. We like to meet at your home so we can get an accurate
sense of your home's character and potential. Often times,
we have you fill out a survey to get an even better idea
of what your needs are.
Images
pulled from a variety of sources such as magazines, pamphlets,
or the internet help us get a visual understanding of the
look and feel you have in mind. Our favorite magazines are:
This Old House, Fine Homebuilding, American Bungalow,
Natural Home, and Metropolitan Home. A trip
to the Tattered Cover will overwhelm you with a large number
of idea books, the best of which are The Not So Big
House series, The Kitchen Idea book, and The
Bathroom Idea book.
Details
Once
we have all agreed that we're headed in the same direction,
we begin the process of design. You will come to our office
to go over design ideas and talk about the best options
to maximize your space. Finish materials such as flooring,
countertops, appliances, and cabinets are generally chosen
once we know where they will be going in your new space.
Occasionally, you may have a great vintage stove or antique
table that needs special consideration in the design process.
Construction
Our
next move is to acquire all the necessary building permits
from the City. Once those are set in place, we can begin
construction. We will help you with preparation before and
during the remodel. Prior to groundbreaking, the Production
Manager will meet with you, the Homeowner, and the Project
Supervisor, who will oversee all the work performed on your
remodel. This ensures that everyone understands the scope
and goals of your project. During construction, you will
have daily updates from the Project Supervisor and access
to the Production Manager with any questions that may come
up.
