- Check
and repair caulking and weather stripping around doors,
windows and other openings
- Make
sure operating skylights are closed tightly
- Install
or close storm windows or call us about replacing old windows
with new energy-efficient ones
- Cover
air conditioning unit or swamp cooler
- Drain
and store garden hoses & winterize sprinklers
- Bring
in any products in garage that would be harmed by freezing
(e.g., paint)
- Test
furnace and change filters (before first snow!)
- Have
furnace and water tank checked and serviced (at a minimum
replace the furnace filter)
- Clean
dryer hose and exhaust fan vent

Test or install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Check
roof vents for nests and other obstructions
- Check
attic insulation depth (should be 12" deep)

Locate or buy snow shovel and "ice melt"
